Granger says that there a few tips that he bestows upon each of these men.
“What I try to ensure, is that the chosen best man realises that being asked to be someone’s best man is an honour – that the groom trusts you and holds your relationship in high regard. Then I give them the run down on what their duties are and how to fulfill them,” he adds.

The duties of a best man include planning the bachelor party, arranging the other groomsmen as well as your own suit or tuxedo fitting and possibly helping out with the cost – which may or may not be required.

Then, it is important that the best man keeps in contact with the matron/ maid of honour and is clear about all the details regarding the big day, including the rehearsal dinner and ensuring he attends. Then there is the wedding day itself. The best man’s responsibility on D-Day, before the ceremony, is to deal with any stress the groom might be feeling, including ensuring each groomsman is looking his best, with boutonnieres in place, as well as drive the groom to any locations that he may need to be taken to. Ultimately, it is his job to be the best support system to the groom and to make sure his friend feels relaxed and ready to meet his bride at the aisle.

Then there is the ceremony. The best man will need to ensure the groom gets to the aisle. Then, he is solely responsible for keeping the rings – the eternal bond between the couple and presenting them when needed, and will also have to sign the marriage license as a witness.

Once the stressful bits are over, it is on to the fun – the reception.

The duty of the best man will be to dance with the matron/maid of honour and bridesmaids, kick off the toasting with his speech which should not embarrass the groom, but be uplifting, and appropriate.

Lastly, a wedding is not something the best man should be worried about, but rather enjoy and make the most of, as it is a day of celebration and love.
